Emily Smith
Emily Smith, Independent Living Specialist at the Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living would be an outstanding addition to the APRIL Board of Directors. Ms. Smit’s association with NWGA CIL goes back nearly a decade. Emily began volunteering at the CIL while still in elementary school. She joined the staff in 2022. Emily’s versatility has been a huge asset to the CIL. In addition to her professional, empathic approach to her consumers, Emily is the Center’s go-to person for social media and other visual communications. As NWGA CIL serves rural counties, Emily is well-versed in the issues faced by consumers in rural areas, including transportation and housing. She has been a presenter at past APRIL conventions, sharing her knowledge alongside representatives from USDA Rural Development. Living with Dyslexia and ADHD, Emily brings a personal understanding of the issues and stigmas associated with invisible disabilities. Emily’s youth is another key asset. She brings a sense of how to relate to younger consumers, balanced by years of CIL experience.
